Social Media Marketing Tip: Tagging People On Facebook

Tagging People On Facebook
Tagging people on Facebook has gotten out of hand!

Have you ever been tagged in some random post on Facebook?

How did you feel about it?

Probably didn’t like it, especially if it was someone else pitching their business and putting your name on it.

I don’t know about you, but I protect and nurture my Facebook profile so I don’t take kindly to others putting whatever suits them on my personal space.

Tagging People on Facebook

Someone out there must be teaching this strategy because I see it all the time, everywhere and it’s rather annoying.

It would be like standing in a crowd and just throwing your business, service or product out there into the crowd and hoping someone picks it up and likes it
(after it bonked them on the head)

Not so sure that strategy would work in real life so why do people think it will online

Check out what I share in this short video about When to Tag people on Facebook

This Facebook trick has been around a while, but not many people (at least not the people I know) are using it.

Most likely, because they’re not even aware they can, or if they’ve notice other folks doing it, they’re not really sure how.

Tagging other Pages from your Facebook Business Page wall is a great way to recognize friends, other brands, etc by giving a live link to their page in the body of your wall posts. It’s a win-win situation, and a great co-promotional tool when dealing with business partners & sponsorships, because you also end up having your post appear on their wall too. Depending on how many fans that page has, this is potentially great visibility for you as well.

So tagging people on Facebook is all good right?

Not exactly, many people I see are using this as spam and that is NOT good for business.

For example, not only on Facebook, I’m seeing this on Instagram too where people are promoting shoes, or something else, and tagging random people to get them to see the post.

Spammy my friend.

Unless the person you tag is wearing them, wants to buy them, made them, etc, don’t be tagging random people and thinking you’ll sell something this way.

I”ve even seen this (in a similar way) happen on Linkedin!!

someone will pitch their business and /or product and randomly message 40 people hoping someone bites.

There IS A BETTER way.

What if instead, you had your own hub where you shared all the aspects of your product, service, etc and what you shared with others was …..VALUE

Imagine that!

Sharing something of value to the people actually looking for what you have.

When you have a personal hub and location where you feature your business , you can target your market and your niche and have them find you.

Imagine, people coming to you asking to buy your “thing”

When you know how, people come looking for you

When you know how to create value, how to share value, and how to target those that want what you have….

You don’t have to resort to spamming others with tags to anything you post

Sharing something of value to the people actually looking for what you have.

When you have a branding station , you can target your market and your niche and have them find you.

Imagine, people coming to you asking to buy your “thing”

When you know how, people come looking for you

You no longer have to resort to tagging total random people on Facebook posts any more just to get some attention to your business, product, or service.
